A recent study published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy concluded that there is a negative correlation between gun ownership and violent crime in countries internationally (more guns = less crime).

Nations with strict gun control laws have substantially higher murder rates than those who do not in general. In fact, the 9 European nations with the lowest gun ownership rate have a combined murder rate 3x that of the 9 European nations with the highest gun ownership rate!

*Based upon Kleck & Gertz estimates of 2.5 million defensive gun uses per year (see source #2). A similar study in 1994 under President Clinton (Source) found this number to be 1.5 million, which would result in guns being used over 47x more often to defend a life than to take one.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, about 436,000 crimes were committed with a firearm in 2008 (Source). This would mean guns are used 5.7 or 3.4 times (using Kleck or Clinton respectively) more often to defend against a crime than to commit one.

Creepy Street Performer in Poole Town Centre

So there I was just a moseying my way through Poole town centre on my lunch break when I bumped into this delightful little feller. It’s not the first time I have seen this creepy street performer in Poole town centre and a couple of friends have informed me that they have also spotted him at Boomtown Fair and my hometown Weymouth Town.

I think this guy is great although I have no idea on what he calls himself and internet searches for some information have borne no fruit, if you know drop a comment as I would love to find out.

His performance involves playing his flute, making gestures to passers-by (as you can see in the photo I took) and running after scared kids he he.

If you hadn’t guest already the man or women! is sat inside the backpack with the manikin’s legs being his or her own. He is such a great and creepy street performer and I wish we had more creativity like this on our streets. Below is a video clip which my friend Sam Allen shot in November 2011.

Stalker: Hidden Spy Cam App for the iPhone

Have you ever been in a situation or place where you wanted to take an image of someone or something but didn’t want to be seen doing it? Well thanks to digital agency Zeta you now can with a new app which they have developed for the iPhone called Stalker.

Stalker is a hidden spy camera app which lets you hide the camera activity on your phone so nobody will be able to tell when you are snapping sneaky pictures in a private place for example or just spying on a friend, partner or stranger!

The app itself is very intuitive and easy to use you simply pick an image to display on the screen to hide the camera activity whilst the photos are being taken and turn the shutter sound off so you don’t give yourself away then tap the screen to start stalking. The camera will continue to take snaps until you tap the screen again and it really is as simple as that.

Metalocalypse Season 4 Teaser

Hit adult swim cartoon Metalocalypse is set to make a return on the 29th April bringing with it Brendon Small’s trademark metal brutality and twisted humour. Having been a fan since the start I can say I ‘am super excited to see where Brendon takes the band and the classic death metal music mastery that will inevitably lead to the Dethalbum 3.

Metalocalypse isn’t the only the only project that is set to be launched on the 29th April as Brendon Small is releasing his side project Galaktikon. You can read a recent blog I wrote about Galaktikon with links to three sample tracks and an interview with Brendon Small where he discusses the sound he developed and the equipment he used on the project.

Brendon Small’s Galaktikon

I have been getting super excited over the announcement of Brendon Small’s Galaktikon and season 4 of Metalocalypse coming on the 29th April. I have been a a big Dethklok fan from the start and from what I have heard of Galaktikon so far this project is going to live up to it. As of today three samplers tracks have been released and they are Dangertits, On My Way and Prophecy Of The Lazer Witch. My personal favourite is On My Way.

If you are fan like me you may be interested in the merchandise packages that are available on the Brendon Small’s website I went for the t shirt/hoodie combo.

Galaktikon has been described by Brendon Small as a “high stakes intergalactic extreme rock” album about a “very messy, public, intergalactic divorce” between two superman man lois lane esque characters. The album will have Dethklok members Gene Hoglan on drums, and Bryan Beller on bass.

Below is an interview with Brendon Small talking about his use of the Carvin Legacy amps and the idea and production behind Galaktikon.

White Zombie Live Concert Video (1993)

In the early 90’s one of the hottest bands on the groove heavy metal scene was White Zombie a four piece with a signature style fronted and founded by writer, vocalist, and graphic artist Rob Zombie with Sean Yseult on bass, Jay Yuenger on guitar and during the 93 period in the video below Phil Buerstatte on drums.

Back in 1993 the band were on tour after the success of their critically acclaimed album La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1 which spawned the all time classic singles Thunder Kiss ’65 and Black Sunshine. The band split in 1998 with Rob Zombie launcing a successful solo career winning a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance and later going on to establish a career as a film director, creating two of my favourite horror movies House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.

I have been a White Zombie fan for many years with the 90’s era being my personal favourite so when I found the video below I was super stoked that it was a full concert and that someone had taken the time to upload it.

So enjoy the video below it was filmed August 10th 1993 – Norwalk, CT and is the full concert. Once again props to the person who took the time to upload it. If you like the music as much as me then I am sure you will get the same excitement I felt bubbling up inside when the band launch into Grindhouse and Rob starts doing his trademark zombie strutting around.

I’m not usually one for short films as I often find them to be well pretentious and boring but this one grabbed my attention and kept it with the beautiful scenery and amazing physics I shudder to think how long it must of taken to get right.
